Products Description
The Silver Foam Dressing is a highly absorbent, multi-layer wound dressing that contains ionic silver to provide an antimicrobial barrier and manage wounds with moderate to heavy exudate. It is used for infected or high-risk wounds, such as pressure ulcers, diabetic ulcers, burns, and surgical sites, while maintaining a moist healing environment.
A polyurethane foam pad absorbs excess wound exudate, which helps prevent maceration of the surrounding healthy skin. When the dressing comes into contact with the wound fluid, it slowly releases ionic silver into the wound bed. These silver ions disrupt bacterial cell walls and interfere with their functions, effectively killing a broad spectrum of bacteria, including antibiotic-resistant strains like MRSA.

Feature
Infection Control
Provides a sustained, broad-spectrum antibacterial effect for up to 7 days, reducing bioburden and the risk of infection.
01
Superior Exudate Management
Highly absorbent to manage moderate to heavy drainage effectively.
02
Patient Comfort
Many variations include a soft silicone adhesive contact layer (e.g., Mepilex Ag) that allows for pain-free, atraumatic removal and prevents the dressing from sticking to the wound bed.
03
Odor Reduction
By controlling the bacterial load, silver foam dressings can also help reduce wound odor.
04
Fewer Dressing Changes
The long-lasting antimicrobial effect (up to 7 days) can reduce the frequency of dressing changes, which may also lower overall treatment costs and patient discomfort.
05
Application
They are indicated for various partial- and full-thickness wounds, including:
Pressure ulcers (Stages II-IV)
Diabetic foot and leg ulcers (venous and arterial)
Surgical and traumatic wounds
First- and second-degree burns (not third-degree burns)
Graft and donor sites
FAQ
Q: When to Use Silver Foam Dressings:
A: The use of silver dressings is generally recommended only in specific situations where a bacterial load is a concern:
1. Presence of Infection: When there are clinical signs and symptoms of a local infection.
2. High Risk of Infection: For wounds where the risk of infection or re-infection is increased (e.g., in immunocompromised patients, or wounds near the perianal region).
3. Stalled Healing: For chronic wounds that are not progressing through the normal healing stages due to a high bacterial burden.
4. Exudate Management: The foam component is best for wounds that produce a moderate to high amount of fluid.
